Another popular Charleston wedding choice is the Coonskin Clubhouse located inside the scenic Coonskin Park. Coonskin is an affordable alternative to some of Charleston’s premier venues. The Clubhouse sits on a beautiful 18-hole golf course. The well-manicured greens and distant mountains provide the perfect backdrop for an elegant wedding. Available 363 days a year (closed Christmas and Thanksgiving), one of the most popular seasons is in the fall. The colorful foliage in the fall provides that extra incentive to book your wedding at Coonskin.
Coonskin clubhouse has two indoor banquet rooms and one outdoor garden that is available for the wedding ceremony itself. Both rooms, The Hearth and the Oak, can accommodate 150 guests and a dance floor. From personal experience, the Hearth room is a little larger than the Oak room and has a little bigger dance floor as well as a stone fireplace. My recommendation would be to get the Hearth room if available. Each room is available for 4 hours and both cost $500 each. You can reserve both rooms for $900. An additional hour can be purchase for $100, but all parties must end by midnight.
There are a few advantages to Coonskin that you do not get with other venues. Coonskin allows you to come in on Friday evening to set up your decorations and gives you until Sunday afternoon to take them down. They also allow for outside catering and will provide you with a list of Clubhouse approved caterers.
The only downside to Coonskin is there is no good place to get dressed if you are doing the wedding there. You basically can get changed in the public bathroom or use the kitchen area as a changing room. Both are a little inconvenient. Also, it is an active golf course so there may be some foot traffic outside your reception windows.
