Wedding Locations: University of Charleston

Personally, one of my favorite venues in Charleston is the University of Charleston located on the Kanawha River directly across from the State Capitol complex. The golden dome of the capitol building and the banks of the scenic Kanawha provide a gorgeous backdrop to your wedding reception.

The University of Charleston provides multiple reception options depending on your style. The Rotunda, which features floor to ceiling windows overlooking the State Capitol, can seat from 150-200 guests with a dance floor. The Rotunda also has a large outdoor patio attached for your wedding guests to go out a catch a breath of fresh air.

The Erma Byrd Gallery is another great option. This room can seat around 150 guests. The largest room the University has to offer is the Ballroom. At almost 4,000 square feet, the Ballroom can provide a maximum capacity of 300 guests. If you are looking for “Charleston’s best piece of real estate,” the UC Riverbank will surely meet your needs. The riverbank can accommodate up to 250 seats.

The University of Charleston has its own catering and does not allow outside food. Catering options start at $13.50 per person for 1 hour of unlimited Hors d’ Oeuvres and $15.95 - $34.95 for dinner entrees. Prices vary depending on cuts of meat. They also have a bartender available for your beverage needs.

Overall, the University of Charleston is a great option for wedding pictures or engagement pictures.
